Didn't see any sprouts there. It's all lies!

Entering into the capital of Belgium, I was immediate struck by the cultural diversity. As I said months ago in my Berlin post, Prague is often called an International city, when some days it seems like it's just mainly Czech and British people. Brussels is definitely home to many different cultures, and best of all it actually serves different kinds of food! Whereas Prague's cuisine offering is less than astounding, walking through the streets in Brussels gives you many options for International foods.

One of the most famous sights to see in Belgium, unfortunately, is the Manneken Pis (pictured). That stupid little kid peeing. It was amazing to see how many silly tourists crammed themselves together along the small street corner to take photos of the young statue's penis. But perhaps I'm being a bit too harsh. Taking one more look at my own photo I suppose there's a certain innocent charm to it. Especially when you compare it to all the statues in Prague of people hitting each other with clubs.

Another point of interest in the city is the European Parliament. Unfortunately I had just missed (by a few months) the display of David Cerny's Entropa, the controversial work of art made to commemorate Czech Republic's Presidency over the EU. I could take this whole thing a step further and get into the Lisbon treaty, and how Cerny's work represents the Euroskeptic view, but I've just about exhausted that topic when I go off on ego trips in my English conversation lessons. So I'll simply say that the Parliament building was striking, and that this statue to the left, of the Euro-lady rising out of the hands of some old-dudes, was pretty cool too.

Brussels was indeed one of the most beautiful cities I saw along my journey. Definitely check out the rest of my photos of Belgium.
